A Family Tradition Since 1977
Henry James Bar-B-Que was founded in 1977 by James Shelton and Henry Rogers with a shared passion for great barbecue. What began as a vision built on hard work, quality food, and southern hospitality grew into a local institution that has served generations of families throughout Randolph County. In 2027, we proudly celebrate 50 years of serving our community.
Today, James Shelton's grandson, Benjamin Dunn, and his wife, Erica Dunn, proudly carry on the legacy established five decades ago. As third-generation owners, we remain committed to the principles that built Henry James Bar-B-Que: serving flavorful food, treating every customer with respect, and delivering Great Food, Great Value!
As the oldest BBQ restaurant in Randolph County, we take pride in serving authentic Lexington-style barbecue prepared the old-fashioned way. Our commitment to quality, consistency, and hometown hospitality has earned us generations of loyal customers and a reputation we work hard to uphold.
Voted Best BBQ 2026 and known for our delicious hushpuppies, we continue to honor the traditions that have made Henry James Bar-B-Que a local favorite. Whether you join us for a meal in our dining room, visit our drive-thru, order carryout, or trust us to cater your next event, our goal remains the same: to serve great food at a great value.
For 50 years, our community has been part of our story. We are proud of where we started, grateful for those who have supported us along the way, and committed to carrying this family tradition forward for generations to come.
From our family to yours, thank you for being part of the Henry James Bar-B-Que story.
